A pub not to be missed. Search it out. - Great pub. All you could wish for qualitywise in food and drink. Real ales, over 40 ciders, very dog friendly (a gravy bone is always given), homemade pies and delicious... read more fish and chips. Pie and chips is about £10 and cod or haddock with fish and peas (mushy or garden) or baked beans is £13.50. Very reasonable. Pies are sold everyday (shin of beef and curried chicken today), but fish and chips is only from Friday to Sunday. My fish was so large that it hung over the plate! The chips are huge. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The beer batter is homemade and so delightfully crispy. Not at all greasy. Blackfriars Tavern has won quite a few awards for both beer and cider and has been voted by CAMRA as the best pub in the region. The publicans are extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. Lots of games available as mentioned in other reviews and also reading material. No car park, but easy to find a spot nearby. It's a residential area and quite frankly a hidden gem.

Oh. And the owners are the best .
10/10

A limited menu but the food on offer is amazing.
Wide selection of real ales at reasonable prices.
The provision of board games is a novel approach with many customers playing chess, dominos and the like.
A real mixture of ages present during my 2 recent visits all having a good time.

Those who don’t want alcohol are very well catered for too with a selection of loose tea’s to chose from. Well behaved dogs are welcomed and treated with cuddles and free gravy bones!
They sell food such as home made pies and (more than) triple cooked chips and sometimes provide nibbles during your visit. We didn’t have the chance to eat but the food we saw served looked absolutely amazing.
Thank you for making our trip to Great Yarmouth that little bit more magical we’ll be sure to return again soon!
